The ICES is happy to share the policy recommendations originating from the study "On the Move in Search of Greener Pastures: Unsafe Migration and Human Trafficking in Sri Lanka’s Tea Plantation Sector". The research was conducted between 2021 and 2022 in the districts of Badulla, Matale and Nuwara Eliya on unsafe migration pathways and vulnerabilities. The project attempted to understand the causes, trends, processes and myths surrounding unsafe labour migration within the plantation sector and the associated socio-economic dynamics that would lead to a stakeholder dialogue on the issue to stimulate an adequate and appropriate policy, as well as institutional dialogue and lobbying.
