Poignant, romantic and mesmerising, writer/director Woody Allen’s latest masterpiece centres around Jasmine (Cate Blanchett), a former New York socialite teetering on an emotional tightrope, balancing between her troubled east coast past and a fresh start in San Francisco. After everything in her life falls to pieces, including her marriage to wealthy businessman Hal,  Jasmine moves into her sister Ginger’s modest apartment in San Francisco to try to pull herself back together again.   The film received praise from critics, particularly for Blanchett’s performance, additionally they compared the film to Tennessee Williams’ play “A Streetcar Named Desire.”   Cate Blanchett won the Best Actress Oscar for her powerful and motive performance for this film.  This is the Australian star’s second Academy Award after taking home Best supporting Actress almost a decade ago for her role in The Aviator.  (98 minutes).
