This conference will be held in ICES Colombo with the participation of over 50 researchers from Sri Lanka and abroad. Invited speakers include Prof. Gananath Obeyesekere, Dr. Kumari Jayawardena, Dr. Deepika Udagama and Dr. John Rogers from the American Institute for Sri Lankan Studies. It is hoped that this conference will draw attention to caste and identity dynamics in Sri Lanka as a research topic and also as a continuing challenge to the promotion of democracy, social justice and social harmony in Sri Lanka. It is hoped that this conference will result in a research programme focusing on caste issues in post war Sri Lanka, some publications and other follow up action.
