ICES co-hosted the module on Nation-Building and Social Integration for the 2015 batch of the Sri Lanka Administrative Services (SLAS). 

The module sought to give an introduction to peace building, reconciliation and social integration to the 2015 batch of the SLAS.

This five week training programme that ran from 17th January to 14thFebruary 2017 was a collaboration between the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA), ICES and the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS). 212 administrators attached to various national and provincial departments, authorities and commissions, had the opportunity to learn about social integration and reconciliation in an interactive environment. Participants developed their own definitions of social integration and reconciliation through participatory exercises, which fuelled discussions on key aspects of these concepts and culminated in a comprehensive discussion of the National Policy Framework for Social Integration. Participants also worked on case studies drawn from ongoing and past research projects conducted by ICES to concrete situations. At the end of each session, they developed individual commitments to address specific issues of discrimination and exclusion within the scope of their portfolios. In their feedback, participants noted that they enjoyed the collaborative and interactive learning environment created by the trainers at ICES and stated that it gave them an opportunity learn from the trainers as well as each other.
