About the Event
Yash Ghai was the Sir Y K Pao Professor of Public Law at the University of Hong Kong from 1989 to 2005. Prior to that, Ghai taught law at the University of Warwick. He has held visiting professorships at Harvard Law School, Yale Law School, Uppsala University and the University of Wisconsin. He has advised on the negotiating and the making of constitutions in over 15 countries. He has written and advised on schemes of autonomy and federalism; the regime of personal laws; the accommodation of Islamic principles and their relationship to other constitutional principles; affirmative action; the representation of minorities; power sharing; and Bills of Rights, among other things. He chaired the Constitution Commission and Constituent Assembly in Kenya that led to its new constitution.
