About the Event

"Pettah' explores the role of minority communities in Sri Lanka's busiest commercial hub. It highlights how Muslim, Tamil, Bohra, Malay, Bharatha, Sindhi, Chettiar, Memon and other traders contribute to the local and national economy. The film also traces how these groups, many with Indian origins, have shaped the area's diversity while navigating ethnic violence and political instability. Through street scenes and interviews, it captures how trade fosters everyday cooperation and inter-communal ties.
