About the Event
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas directed by Mark Herman from the best-selling novel by John Boyne, is a life-affirming drama set in the Auschwitz Nazi concentration camp during World War II. This is a tale of a curious 8-year-old Bruno who lives a wealthy life style in pre-war Germany along with his mother, elder sister and SS Commandant father. The family relocates to the countryside where his father is assigned to take command of a prison camp. A few days later Bruno, bored with his life away from the city where he used to live, befriends a boy strangely dressed in striped pajama named Shmuel. Bruno embarks on a most unusual friendship with the boy who lives behind an electrified fence. Bruno finds out that he is not permitted to befriend his new friend as he is a Jew, and that the neighbouring yard is actually a prison camp for Jews awaiting extermination. (94 minutes)
