About the Event

The Kandyan Dancer is a dance documentary that explores the rarely examined expressions of masculinity within Kandyan dance. Drawing from both research and embodied practice, the film reveals how movement, rhythm and discipline shape masculine identity within this classical tradition.

Beyond performance, the documentary draws attention to the urgent need to safeguard Kandyan dance as a vital form of Sri Lanka's intangible cultural heritage and to recognize its significance and potential as a World Heritage tradition.
