The ICES leadership and research staff are generalists as well as specialists, and are impartial and non-ideological in their analytical approach. The proven expertise of the senior research staff, distinguished figures in their fields, is one of its greatest assets. The Centre has a 25-year track record of quality research and publishing, one which it is dedicated to maintaining. In doing so, it remains committed to its core values of intellectual independence, accuracy, impartiality, integrity and excellence.

The Centre also actively develops close working relationships with academics and other research centres, both locally and overseas, and co-ordinates groups of varied and geographically dispersed researchers toward common goals.

The ICES Kandy is open to researchers and scholars of all countries and disciplines. Researchers, scholars and advisors come from Sri Lanka, the South Asian region, and around the world, and are supported by an experienced, multiethnic and multilingual Sri Lankan staff. Researchers have access to ICES staff expertise, the library, and a network of academics and experts who can provide guidance for research.
